I did too much grocery shopping this weekend, considering I move out of my apartment in August, so I am set on making food as often as possible so my fridge is empty when I move out. On the way back from work, I had a great idea for what to have tonight! Remember this post?

Ground pork is what makes mapo tofu great. I like extra spicy (I am from Sichuan, where mapo tofu was invented, afterall) so I sliced up a handful of dried cayenne peppers and added it on top of the recipe. I even minced the ground pork with black pepper. I love the dark orange color of the sauce.

Mapo tofu is a dish from the Sichuan region of China (where my mom is from) known for its powerful, spicy flavor. It’s a dish you can find made in American Chinese restaurants relatively authentically (compared to other dishes), especially in Sichuan-themed restaurants. Living on my own in my apartment in college, cooking is a skill I picked up a few years ago, and it’s a hobby that I share more openly with people than “anime blogging”. So today, I will share my ultra-exclusive top secret personal mapo tofu recipe. Mapo tofu is a rather simple dish; the hardest part is getting ingredients and figuring out how much to add to balance the spices. The KFC Double Down has caused somewhat of a sensation the last few weeks. It’s a conceptual idea turned actual product where bacon and cheese is served as a sandwich, except the bread is replaced with two pieces of FRIED CHICKEN. Naturally, I had to go get one. I took a detour on my way grocery shopping today and tried one out.
