Last week’s results about the Anime Power Rankings

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun S – seeing Touma in the last 30 seconds was like getting bitch slapped by a 800 pound woman’s arm flab and that ruined a very good episode. Also, Kakumeiki Valvrave didn’t get a vote because Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate did a better job with improbable politics and Haruto’s freak out was actually yawn inducing to watch.

On the other hand, Yuyushiki was incredibly hilarious this week.

Last week’s results about the Anime Power Rankings

The duel between Shinobu and Chihaya unfolds like a wild west gun fight. Of course Chihayafuru 2 is my No. 1 show this week.

Shinmaru (The Cart Driver)

Chihayafuru 2 becomes the sixth show to hold the top position of Anime Power Rankings this season, which a dramatic and climactic episode that pits Chihaya against Shinobu. One of my major problems with Chihayafuru is how Chihaya always seems to pull something out of her ass and win, but this encounter not only delivered on its long buildup, but I felt like it was really unpredictable what would happen next. This is dramatic action at its finest. (more…)

Valvrave continues to impress me with its greatness. Maou-sama was great and Ashiya’s story in particular was absolutely incredible. Finally, MJP continues to be an excellent mecha with lots of heart.

Reising (ToxicMuffin)

Now that we’ve passed the halfway mark, we can now see every shows’ true colors. The biggest surprise for me this season has been Kakumeiki Valvrave. After having a very rocky start, this show has impressed me with it’s ambitions. Sunrise clearly has a plan for this two-cour epic, and I will hopefully enjoy this ride from beginning to end. The blogger community seems to agree, as this show take the number-one spot for the first time this season.

The Tita- Eotens are still on vacation.

Marow (Anime Viking)

Attack on Titan and Oreimo were honestly tied for me, but I had to choose one. They’re two completely different shows and fulfill different parts of my anime nutritional needs. That said, Titan had the bigger WTF factor by introducing the Titan Killing Titan (it’s probably Eren, guys). Still, Kyosuke in Oriemo was hilarious, what with his very realistic concerns as a new boyfriend. When is the best time to touch a girl’s boobs? I don’t know, Kyosuke. Just don’t get arrested on molestation charges for being too eager…

Last week’s results about the Anime Power Rankings

Railgun S continues to push Misaka’s backstory related to all the clones, but this week was extra special with Accelerator returning to screw things up for Misaka’s clones! Which means you know who is probab;y going to also appear very soon to punch people in the face after giving a speech about how killing people is bad bro so you should stop at once or something like that…

Foshizzel (Metanorn)

The 5th episode of To Aru Kagaku no Railgun jumps to the top of the Anime Power Rankings this week behind a glorious episode full of what makes the franchise great. We had Misaka faces, world building, and (most importantly) Accelerator. The fact that the show is springing forth into the Sisters arc is an acceptable trade-off to the lack of Kuroko.

You know what? Attack on Titan has a really odd pace. From one action-centric episode we go to one with a flashback, completely leaving behind the awesome feeling. Heck, whatever happened with the Titans this week? Did they go on a vacation or something?

Last week’s results about the Anime Power Rankings

Basically the opposite of last week’s shitfest. Wow. Attack on Titan brought the intensity this week with the battle against the Titans and lots of ridiculous sequences of soldiers swinging around. More of this, please. Maou-sama was lots of fun, with an entertaining battle and self-awareness that’s amusing but not smug. Valvrave is fucking ridiculous, as usual. Dokidoki! Precure has Alice unleashing her martial arts skills again. Aku no Hana has Nakamura making Kasuga’s life miserable.

Truly a wonderful week for anime.

Shinmaru (The Cart Driver)

After Chihayafuru came out of its recap episode, the show returns seamlessly to its former glory, topping out to 4th place in this week’s Anime Power Rankings. I was really impressed with Hataraku Maou-sama! this week. I have some doubts if the show should be going this direction, but I enjoyed the Scary Movie-esque satire of fantasy action anime that Hataraku Maou-sama! relies on to keep the show watchable. As long as we get more of Chiho’s succulent loli curves and Emi’s delish legs, this show will do just fine. (more…)

Yuyushiki is unquestionably this season’s best show. I completely doubt the taste of anyone who thinks otherwise. Anyone who says Titan or Gargantia is really suppressing their real desire to vote for Yuyushiki. It’s okay people, you can vote for it safely. Don’t be afraid of voting how you really feel.

Emperor J (Lower Mid-Table)

Yuyushiki makes it’s first appearance on the APR top 5 this week. It’s interesting to see a show like Yuyushiki make it’s way into the APR, even if it just barely makes it to the number five spot. If the show is able to make another appearance in the APR top 5 then I may be inclined to pick the show back up even though I couldn’t bring myself to finish the first episode. Something about the character design and the bland humor of episode 1 turned me off of the show. But apparently there is some quality to Yuyushiki if it’s able to land a spot at number 5. Maybe I was too quick to judge. (more…)

Can we really say that Dokidoki’s Rikka episode wasn’t the best thing ever? It was the best thing ever. If you believe otherwise, you are a terrible, horrible person.

Justin (Lost My Thesis)

When my writer Usny told me he was going to write a first impressions post on Suisei no Gargantia, I responded “uhhh… sure have fun.” Being the boorish plebeian I am, I am only paying attention to shows full of kawaii girls. I passively checked the show out, and I felt it was fine. I look forward to an interesting show from Gen, but nothing to write home about yet. But damn you guys have seemed to take to it like a ring in a bell.

This is the first time that a studio has taken the top two spots of the APR since Week 11 of Summer 2011, when Brains Base finished atop with Mawaru Penguindrum and Natsume Yuujinchou San.  (more…)
