Last week’s results about the Anime Power Rankings
Fuck the haters. Tamako Market was excellent this week.
redball (The Classiest Anime)
This week, Chihayafuru 2 takes its place atop the weekly ranking of anime episodes. Tamako Market hits its stride with the introduction of Shiori and a real character relationship. Additionally, Uchuu Kyoudai makes its first appearance in god knows how long.
Space Brothers is in a rare place right now where each week it gets better and better within this arc. The terrible pacing of the isolation pod arc is now real time here, but it works very well. Everything is played with a deadly seriousness without any of the sappiness that a Hollywood depiction of the same story would have. That I’m even comparing it at that level speaks volumes to how good this story has become.
Emperor J (Lower Mid-Table)
Any lingering doubt that Chihayafuru 2 couldn’t match the brilliance of the first season was completely obliterated with this week’s episode. In my humble opinion, anyone who doesn’t vote for Chihayafuru as number 1 this week is a loser.
The competition for the rest of spots was a might tighter proposition. Space Brothers continues to be weirdly action-packed but no less awesome and earns my second place vote. Third goes to Psycho-pass. With the story heating up, the inclusion of a new really cool and awesome animation sequence for the OP was just what it needed to vault into my top 5. Fourth goes to Tamako Market which continues to put a smile on my face and fifth goes to Kotoura-san, the pleasant surprise of the season. I realize they’re probably character building but I hate cliffhanger ending and having to wait to see what happens happens next – looking at you Space Brothers and Kotoura-san.
steelbound (The null set)
Kotoura-san had another excellent, moving episode. Even though I was aware of a sad ending, I did not see that particular ending being what we got. I am glad we got it though as there was minimal drama and fuss, only an excellent setup for the next episode.
JoJo introduced Lisa Lisa and for that alone it deserves praise, but seeing the bromance between JoJo and Caesar as well as JoJo’s individual talents develop was a much welcome treat. Tamako Market 3 was a great episode as well. It had more emotion than the 2 previous ones.
I am still not too happy with somethings in Minami-ke like the backgrounds and some of the animations, but Hosaka’s introduction not only saved Minami-ke but anime as well.
Mondaijitachi had a slightly weaker episode this week, but it was still very good.

I’m with redball. Tamako Market is the real deal.

I find Tamako Market minus the bird to be like most typical cute girl shows. Palatable, but facile and highly risk-averse. KyoAni is like that really smart kid who takes easy classes. Sure he can ace trigonometry, but shouldn’t he really be in multivariable calculus?

That awesome training ep from Jojo gets only 4th, oh noooooo. At least, its still ahead of psycho&Co.
