Finally Switched Over to Windows 7

Sorry for random inane posts lately, it’s been a busy week for me. Now that it was finally the weekend, it was great timing for my Windows 7 CD to finally arrive in the mail! I started the installation process at 4:30 PM today and now at 12:11 AM I can finally say I am 100% switched over (though I didn’t install or change anything since 10 PM, it was just getting used to everything). While I was at it, I decided to switch from WinAmp to Songbird, as well.

To be quite honest, I’m gonna miss the quick launch menu. The new list based jump menus are not clicking with me so far. I never know whether I’m clicking to minimize Firefox or launch a new window. I’m considering getting myself Mizuki Nana’s voice thing but I can imagine that being pretty funny the first few times before it gets old. Nanami is treating me well, however. It’s noticeably faster and works pretty well. Oh right, there’s a known problem with the CCCP and Windows 7, for those of you who have not upgraded yet or are planning to in the near future. Namely, .mkv softsubs don’t work in Media Player Classic. I was kind of stumped for a minute but the fix is super easy in case you don’t feel like Googling. Hit O with MPC open (or view -> options), external filters, hit add filter, and find DirectVobSub (auto-loading version) and hit ok. After that, select the option labeled “prefer” and hit ok. I’ve also heard from my friend that Media Player 12 plays mkv but I don’t care because CCCP is awesome and I like classic better.
’till next time.

Thanks much for the info on MPC. I installed Nanami on my laptop some weeks ago and though MPC seems to work well so far, I’ll get that fix up just to be sure.
How is speed/performance? Have you tried gaming on window 7 at all so far? How about decoding anime, has there been any hiccups with HD?
I rewatched my BluRay version of K-ON and I caught one hiccup during the OP, besides that, no notable dropped frames or anything. Solid 30 fps all the way and my processor fan whirred throughout the episode and it was rendered just about perfectly. Basically a decent improvement over what I had in Vista (keep in mind I run two monitors. If I disabled the other monitor I can decode BluRays even better)
10 fps improvement in Call of Duty 4. Haven’t tried playing Modern Warfare 2 on this yet.

I know you want to switch her voice with Kugyuu or Hocchan. I’m totally switching with Yukarin whenever I get 7. :3
Wait, which kind of Windows 7 did you install? I have Windows 7 Professional but haven’t installed it yet.
