“They use chopsticks, not forks”
That’s why its socially acceptable to stab plebeians with these condemned evil utensils.
Hentai ouji is prolly gonna be the next Sakurasou in terms of production quality – good staff, good budget, but its enjoyment level will likely fall on how good the material is.
JC Staff can’t turn bad or mediocre material into good animes. But they can turn really good material into something that ends up to be between not bad to completely stellar.
And here, like lvlin, I thought you were talking about Koi Kaze, the incest show. Its a fantastic slow-paced romance/drama/SoL, if you haven’t caught it.
I completely agree with Kevo. Its the same reason I hate Sword Art Online. Adaptations should always stand on their own, and if I’m expected to read the source material, that means the anime was just catering to VN/LN fans, and its probably badly constructed. I avoid twitter during the hours before I watch my streaming anime, usually use ANN to check up stuff cause Wiki is just so spoileriffic.
On the other hand though, I understand when source material fans whine about differences between the adaptation and the source, as long as the details they have issues with are not minor and concerns differences in tone, plot and/or themes.
I think Madhouse could do Photo Kano well, considering how well they adapted Nana, but when they did it was EXACTLY like the manga. So I would think Photo Kano would be good if the source was good, but would prolly be only okay. Oh, and Chihayafuru is not a shoujo.
I’m going for blind guess here and put Asian Risshiden no Shima Kousaku as the sleeper hit, because FUCK CORPORATIONS.
This season looks to have alot of interesting animes, but there’s not alot guaranteed quality stuff. This might (hopefully) turn out to be one of the amazing standout season, after having such a mediocre Winter.

My argument about Photo Kano was that Madhouse can produce great non-action shows. Chihayafuru is one example.
Also, there’s never a guarantee that a show will be great but that is the fun about speculating before the season starts. It’s all about managing expectations.

I have varied expectations regarding Photo Kano. After this season’s drought of proper romances, I’m crossing fingers. I do hope they try to get unconventional rather than use the omnibus format. I’m actually quite against omnibus because there is no one true route or canonical plot.
I actually feel that Chihayafuru is an action show (like sport action), but that’s a discussion for another time.
Trying to guarantee a show’s quality is half the fun in speculation for me, especially if it turns into a Guility Crown.
Stull, spring seems to be more filled with innovate ideas, with alot more things catching my eye compared to winter’s pultry offerings, so I can’t wait.

White Fox and PA Works are officially on my shit list until they start producing stuff that’s actually good.

I think both studios have produced some fine quality shows. PA Works has shown that they have the potential to make outstanding titles (Hanasaku Iroha and Tari Tari). White Fox has already won me over with Katanagatari and Steins;Gate. Despite their shortcomings, I can’t help but be curious of their upcoming titles.
Also, does that mean you won’t try these new shows?

No, I’ll always try out a show by them, as I must give everything that’s not instantly identifiable as eroge smut a chance to prove itself to me. Recently tried out Red Data Girl. It was too safe and uninteresting for me to continue watching it though.
Anyways, regarding White Fox, I do love Steins;Gate, but that’s pretty much the exception to the rule. Never got into Katanagatari.
As for PA Works, I’ve seen stuff by them I liked, but I never loved. You mentioned on the podcast that they haven’t had a breakout hit and that pretty much sums up my reaction to them perfectly.

Waiting for a studio to make a breakout hit and putting them on a “shit list” have two completely different connotations. You can’t blame me for wondering if you would even try a show.
YAHARI WILL TRUMP THIS SEASON WITH ITS SUPER HAREM OF 2013. GET ON BOARD OR GO THE FUCK HOME.
